Gum contouring — also called gum reshaping — adjusts the level and shape of the gum line to create a more even, balanced smile. For some people, the gums sit low and cover too much of the teeth (a “gummy” smile); for others, the gum line is uneven, making teeth look different lengths. Gum contouring refines that line.
At Pure White, gum contouring is carried out by our specialist periodontist in Mirdif. Because it involves the gum tissue and the health beneath it, having it done by a periodontist means both the aesthetics and the underlying gum health are looked after together
It’s often combined with cosmetic treatments — for example, refining the gum line before veneers — to complete a smile makeover. Where more of the tooth needs exposing, or bone is involved, a related procedure called crown lengthening may be recommended instead.
After numbing the area for comfort, your periodontist carefully removes or reshapes excess gum tissue and refines the gum line so it frames your teeth more evenly.
